Project Overview
The goal of the project was to redesign the administrative software used by our Sellers as they interface with the Jane Marketplace. Our primary objective was to create tools that helped our Sellers get their products on the marketplace fast and have the tools to manage their storefront with ease.My Contributions
As the sole designer assigned to the project, everything that was designed was done by me. Because of the size of the project, I collaborated with the Product Manager and Engineering to determine scope then began analyzing data we gather from user interviews. Armed with this information, I mapped the user journey, crafted user personas, flowcharts and redesigned the user interface.
So why a redesign? Who is it for and what will it do?
It was well-known at Jane that our success depended on the success of our Sellers. After all, they made Jane a great place to shop. To understand what tools were most valuable and what would make the greatest impact, we started by interviewing sellers in a variety of categories, both big and small. These interviews gave us insight into what common pain points our sellers face and the tools we could provide to make running their business easier on our platform. I provided user journey maps and user personas that helped guide our decisions and measure if we were on track to hit our goal.
Designing the foundation, application flow, and touch points.
The Seller Admin was complicated software. It was imperative that I fully understood what the user wanted to accomplish and how they interacted with the software to achieve their goals.I started by mapping the process for uploading products onto the Jane platform then outlined the details for each component. Finally, I broke down the overall navigation of the app, preserving the most vital parts and consolidating others.
White Boarding & Wireframes
As part of my process, I like rapidly throw ideas that are in my head onto a white board and flesh them out. This helps me to quickly iterate through both good and bad ideas before I jump into Figma.Any good idea discovered during the white boarding process is then recreated as a lo-fi wireframe and checked against our Northstar goal for the project. If it has the potential to achieve our goals, the idea is iterated on and taken to the next stage of hi-fi UI designs.
Final UI
After multiple rounds of iteration and approval from our Stakeholders, the final UI was completed and shown to our Sellers as part of a Seller Summit we hosted at the Jane offices and online. The response was incredible. Much of the feedback echoed our initial Seller interviews and Sellers were excited that we had listened to them and provided the tools they wanted to run their businesses on the Jane Platform. It was a massive undertaking, but the project was delivered in a few short months and improved how quickly our Sellers could get their products on our site.
